Meet Nicky!
After surviving 9 months of starvation in a tiny bathroom, Nicky (1.5 yrs) was surrendered to Bubbles weighing only 35 lbs. That was the beginning of the fight for his life because 2 days after he was rescued, he was diagnosed with parvo. The vets didn’t think he would survive but Nicky proved everyone wrong when he woke up one morning at the hospital and decided to walk!
Today, Nicky is THRIVING at a healthy 72 lbs. in his foster home. Because of Nicky’s original trauma, medical isolation and recovery, he is still very much a puppy who is learning about the world around him. Despite all he has been through, he truly LOVES and trusts people. He has never met a human he didn’t love. He is excited to be learning new commands and has mastered sit, down, come, wait, and place. He is working on more advanced obedience and tricks like roll over, extended down, stay, etc.
Nicky is crate trained and is crated for many hours per day while his foster is at work.
Nicky is GREAT with CATS, KIDS and PEOPLE. Because of his early life experiences, he is wary of other dogs and will require a slow introduction to any resident dog; however, he lives with two other dogs in his foster home and lived with many dogs at his medical foster so he can trust dogs but needs to be confident they won’t hurt him.
He can be reactive with new dogs on walks but he’s working really hard with a trainer multiple times per week to overcome his fears and has made huge progress in just a few weeks!
Nicky is dreaming of a family who loves to CUDDLE, will give him lots of stuffies and tug toy time. He would do amazing in a home with cats, kids, many adults or a single person. He can adjust to a resident dog with patience and understanding. He is just a BIG LOVE bug who is learning how wonderful the world can be for him.
